DESCRIPTION:Annual General Meeting. \nAs a registered charity YWHS holds a meeting every year to conduct the formal business of the Society with supporters present.  \nThis meeting is for those who have registered as supporters of the Society by midnight on Saturday 9 May\, 2026 entitling them to vote on matters arising during the AGM. Joining instructions will be sent out to those registered supporters during week commencing 11 May\, 2026. To attend the meeting you will simply need to have a PC or a mobile phone connected to the internet. If you can already see this website\, you will be able to log on to our AGM.  \nThe format of the meeting will be: \n\nChair’s annual report on our activities for the year 2025-26.\nFinancial report for the year.\nElection of Society officers for the coming year.\nPlans for the next twelve months and beyond.\nPresentation. \nAny other business.\n\nFor the first time our online AGM will include a short twenty minute presentation. This year we have decided to talk about how the Society has been using AI technology to enhance historic photographs. You will have heard much about the “threat” of AI but here we demonstrate how AI tools are able to contribute positively to what we do as historians. By helping us to “illuminate ” old photographs we hope to show the younger generation that history need not just be seen in black and white.  \n

SUMMARY:Guided heritage canal trips on Tilly
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Waterways Heritage Festival we are delighted to announce that the Tilly Community Canal Boat\, operated by  HFR Solutions CIC\, will be visiting Goole to take part in our Flotilla Event on Saturday 18 July\, 2026. \nTilly is a 60ft long trip boat which is licenced to carry twelve passengers. Outside of her participation in the flotilla\, short canal trips will be offered on the morning of Saturday 18 July and throughout the day on Sunday 19 July. Tickets will be going on sale later and we will point you to the booking website once that is open to the public. \nEach trip will be hosted by a YWHS guide who will narrate the story of the Knottingley to Goole canal and the port of Goole over its two hundred years history from 1826 to the present day. \nPassengers will board at Spicers Auctioneers\, the site of the former Yorkshire Waterways Museum\, by the canal in Goole and trips will last approximately one hour. \n  \n

Through newspaper reports\, we examine the combined efforts of the many committees as they prepared to deliver a spectacle which would be reported as a tremendous success across the country.  \nThe organisers have requested that you please arrive NO EARLIER than 10.00. Refreshments will be available on arrival\, and a light Buffett Lunch will be served after the meeting at 12.00pm.

DESCRIPTION:This annual event at Junction\, Goole is created through a collaboration between three local heritage organisations\, Boothferry Local and Family History Group\, Goole First World War Research Group and Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society.
