Each session\, commencing at 10.30am\, will last two hours and feature a mixture of free-range discussion plus a look at that week’s topic led by historian and author\, David Scrimgeour. \nRecognising that next year will see the bi-centenary of the port of Goole\, our aim is to uncover some of the less well-known stories telling us about the lives of the ordinary people from those two hundred years\, fitting them alongside the better-known events from this region’s history. \nEach week we will look into what was happening in Goole and the waterways of Yorkshire during a period of twenty-five years\, through articles found in the newspapers\, with additional material provided from photographs\, illustrations\, maps and other sources. \nThere is no charge for each session. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate 200 years of heritage and history\, with this showcase of Goole on film. \nGoole Civic Society is showing historic films of Goole at Junction\, Goole as its launch event for the town’s bicentenary celebrations. \nSourced from several collections\, including the Yorkshire Film Archive and Pathe News collection\, the event will showcase a series of films featuring Goole from the 1920s through to the 1980s including The Last Run and Launch of Thuntank V. \nIt will also include the premiere of two specially-commissioned projects for Goole’s bicentenary year: \n\n A recording of Advance! SUMMARY:Guided heritage canal trips on Tilly
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Waterways Heritage Festival we are delighted to announce that the Tilly Community Canal Boat\, operated by  HFR Solutions CIC\, will be visiting Goole to take part in our Flotilla Event on Saturday 18 July\, 2026. \nTilly is a 60ft long trip boat which is licenced to carry twelve passengers. Outside of her participation in the flotilla\, short canal trips will be offered on the morning of Saturday 18 July and throughout the day on Sunday 19 July. Tickets will be going on sale later and we will point you to the booking website once that is open to the public. \nEach trip will be hosted by a YWHS guide who will narrate the story of the Knottingley to Goole canal and the port of Goole over its two hundred years history from 1826 to the present day. \nPassengers will board at Spicers Auctioneers\, the site of the former Yorkshire Waterways Museum\, by the canal in Goole and trips will last approximately one hour. \n  \n
